Origins of Hinduism
The religion of Hinduism originated in Northern India, near the river
Indus, about 4000 years ago and is one of the world's oldest existing
religion. However it was not founded by one individual but rather, a fusion of many religious beliefs. During 1800 BC the civilization living along the Indus River northwest of India got invaded by the Indo-Europeans which brought their culture and religion which then the two civilization's culture and religion fused adding Gods and new ideas. During 600 BC the idea of reincarnation became more common, although the idea of animal sacrifices began to be disliked, so people began worshiping new Gods who didn't require animal sacrifices. These new Gods were Vishnu and Shiva.

History of Hinduism in Australia
The first Hindus were brought to Australia far back as 1810 as domestic servants. Up to 1850 Hindus were brought to work on cotton and sugar plantations while many Hindus stayed to start small businesses. After India became independent in 1947 many Indians and British citizens from India immigrated to Australia bringing their culture and religion. Large numbers of Hindus arrived in Australia and Western Australia in the late 1970s after the removal of the 'White Australia Policy'. |
